Voicecom is a leading provider of integrated communications solutions with service offerings in messaging, unified communications, call answering, mobile calling and broadcast voice.

Unix Administrator, Team Leader April 1993 - Present

Responsible for maintaining quality of service and availability for Voicecoms backend billing, customer service and provisioning systems. These systems are based on Sun and Intel hardware and are a combination of Database servers and client server configurations. When required recommend, install and configure new hardware and software to meet management expectations. Insure all systems packages and patches properly installed and up to date. Shell scripting used to automate routine tasks and monitor critical processes. Responsible for backup and disaster recovery preparedness using Veritas Netbackup and CA Arcserve. Responsible for user account management.

Accomplishments:

  • Designed and managed the infrastructure preparation of data center at 55 Pk Place location.
  • Planned and implemented the systems move from Buckhead location to 55 Pk Place location with minimal disturbance to production systems
  • Successfully transitioned applications and user environment from Intel based SCO Unix based systems to Sun Solaris systems
  • Maintain public facing web servers including SSL certificates and signed software.
  • Designed and implemented a system to track domain name and SSL certificate expirations.
  • Installed Private gigabit network between Sun Servers for high speed database access and backup
  • Designed and implemented automatic system auditing, storing system configuration information in a safe location.
  • Designed a Browser based change control database system for myself and fellow System Administrators to keep track of system modifications and document hardware configurations.

Provided remote Unix administration to 200 branch offices each with a local Intel SCO Unix system for branch automation functions. Responsible for insuring uptime and reliable backup. Responsible for automating the buildout of the remote machines to insure consistency between offices. Troubleshooted application and system software problems. Spent time as Progress programmer migrating office automation application from Cobol to Progress 4GL.
